Every morning for the last 2 days on the commute to work ive noticed that my car has been performing weirdly . On the motorway it seems like its stuck in top gear or something and excellerates very slowly and wont kick down . The car doesnt do this at first is seems to happen after driving it for a hour or so .The strange thing is that after parking it up and leaving it for an hour or so it will perform normally all day . If anybody has any ideas what this could be i would be very gratefull .

Thanks .

Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
Next to the air filter box, on the big fat pipe. You'll see a wire heading into it. It'll be held in with 2 torx bolts.

You only need the insert (not the pipe section).

They may say so - but it is a sensor. There's is no filter component to it.
I believe
MAF Mass Air Flow sensor
AMF Airflow Mass Sensor
MAS Mass Airflow Sensor

All the same gizmo though.

My BMW uses 2 MAFs which cost approx 500 quid from BMW. They are Bosch items also used on VAG group cars. VW will supply new for old MAFs at a much reduced price, the only difference being the lack of a clip to hold the plug in place. Not sure if the same applies to Merc though but it might be worth investigating if any 'lesser' marques use the same items.

Went and got my old box

Part number A 611 094 00 48

Description - Air Mass sensor

Cost £66.62

The Bosch sensor would have to be a lot better than the genuine one to make me pay £150 for it!!!

looks like this

A word of warning. Some M5 owners I know have fitted non-bosch items and screwed up the performance of their engine.
