Flip Key

Hi,

I have a key issue. 1996 W202 C220 Auto. I will attach a pic of my key.

This is my only key. I don't have a spare. My key stopped working. Changed batteries. Still not working. I took the key to a local key maker. He said the PC board might be broken. Luckily the car was open when the key stopped working, it's unlocked and I can start and drive the car. I can get by without the remote central locking.
My problem is, the car doesn't have a lock on the driverside door. Just the red and green sensors. This means currently when I park the car somewhere it's quite an issue to lock and unlock the car.

I live in South Africa, in a small coastal town. The 3 key makers here have informed me that they can't supply a key like mine anymore. According to most of them (unconfirmed for the Mercedes dealer in the next town) the keys are no longer supplied by Mercedes.

If this is the case, what are my options to get a new key or to just have a option to lock and unlock the drivers door without climbing over the passenger seat all the time.

I feel your pain! I have similar problems. I have been recently recommended from this forum to contact remotekeyrepairs.com (Paul Young) in Yorkshire, and have found him excellent to deal with so far. He should be able to repair your key. But you will have to send him your only key! So if you can first get a spare key cut, at least you'll be able to lock the car and start it as at present. But finding a suitable blank in SA may be difficult. There is someone on ebay who will cut a key for you with the purchase from them of a flip key shell with blade; you just send them a close up photo or a rubbing of your key blade. Make sure that you notice that there are 2 two different types of key blade (HU64 and HU39) and ensure that you order the right one.
