...I can report on fuel economy of my ML 320 CDi. Actually I was quite pleased with the thing, 2 up with a serious full load in the boot, and three bags on the back seat, the best we saw over a 173 mile stretch, at average speed of 52 miles per hour.... wait for it.... 34.4mpg!! The previous day, over a 500 ish mile stretch was not quite so good, but still over 30 mpg. I have a picture of the display somewhere. I'll try to hook it out. She has now covered 12,000 miles and I am sure that the economy has got better as mileage approached 10,000. Finally run in I suppose!

New M-Class is lovely looking especially in my favourite colour, black with all the chrome.

Doing those speeds in my w163 270cdi i would get into the 40s per gallon with 50k on the clock.

I have done the same trip twice before with my old W163 270CDi, with a slightly smaller load, and only managed to scrape just over 30mpg. The new machine is slightly better on fuel, and much better on driver comfort than my old one for this journey.
