Piece from my local paper following fatal accident. ' Mourners have been asked that any donations be made to road safety charity ‘Brake’. "

Family involved are asking for donations to BRAKE. I have complained to the paper because by bringing this group in to the equation , they are insinuating that the driver is at fault and could thus be prejudicing any future court action involving them.

BRAKE started off as a charity to help the relatives and families of those injured or killed in road traffic accidents, a noble cause you might think.

It has quickly been infiltrated by anti motoring groups such as Green party members and other assorted tree huggers. Amongst the sort of rubbish which it has been associated with, is calls for EVERY driver involved in any sort of road accident to be prosecuted. Lowering of M way speed to blanket 50mph, blanket 20 MPH in all areas of housing. Visit it's website
http://www.brake.org.uk/index.php?p=12

These aren't the aims of a Charity but the bleatings of a thinly disguised anti motorist political party.

Yes, I put more blame on parents who don't supervise kids outdoors and on the disgusting state of the British transport system, which forces kids and cars into the same arena.
Brake doesn't see (or report) any of that.

If you look closely at a lot of the cases on the BRAKE site, they refer accidents involving unlicensed drivers, drink drivers, uninsured drivers yet they still seek a stick to beat all drivers with .
Previous fatal accident on the same stretch of road involved single car and 16 year old pedestrian youth at around 11.30 pm one dry night. Inquest revealed that driver was not speeding on the 60 mph road and has passed a breath test. Youth ( 16 remember ) had 3 times the legal limit of alcohol for driving in his system and had just been refused drink at nearby rugby club because he was intoxicated. Had spent the night in several pubs.
I was roundly condemned for pointing this out in reply to letters in the local press calling for speed camera and speed reduction in area of accident. It was amazing just how many people wouldn't accept that as a drunken pedestrian, he was responsible for his own demise. They wanted the driver hung, drawn and quartered yet he had done nothing wrong, braking in an effort to avoid the figure that fell in to the carriageway in the dark of the night.

Just read a bit more re the latest accident. Youth had been to a friends birthday party so it will be interesting to see what the inquest says about alcohol. Also family are calling for a pedestrian crossing where the accident happened. Such a crossing is only of use to those sober enough to use it correctly.
