Hi All.

I was prompted by a friend the other day, to explain some of the shorthand abbreviations used on forums (this and others).

Now, i'm by no means an authority on this but i've gathered together a few.
What with the proliferation of new members daily, it may help to decipher some of the terms in common use.

Some people use them, some don't.

I don't wish to patronize either, i'm sure there are many more.

AFAIK - As Far As I Know
AFK - Away from keyboard
AKA - Also Known As
BRB - be right back
BTW - By The Way
FWIW - For what's it worth
FYA - For Your Amusement
FYI - For Your Information
HTH - Hope This Helps
IANAL - I am not a lawyer
IIRC - If I Recall Correctly
IMHO - In My Humble Opinion
IMO - In My Opinion
J/K - just kidding
K.I.S.S - Keep It Simple Stupid!
LMAO - Laughing My Ass Off
OMG - Oh, My Gosh
OTOH - On The Other Hand
OWOA - One Way Or Another
PITA - pain in the ass
ROFL - Rolling On Floor Laughing
RTFM - Read The F****ng Manual
TA - Thanks Again
TIA - Thanks In Advance
TTYL - talk to you later

Oh ..........TTFN, DS.

Another one to add is SWMBO. She Who Must Be Obeyed.. ;)

The one I see a lot, especially on forums frequented by our American friends, is LOL - Laugh Out Loud I think.

Another one I've seen a few times is YMMV - Your Mileage May Vary. Seen that used essentially anywhere where someone is meaning that though what they just said is what they did/got that it don't necessarily mean thats what you will find ;)

My fave though still has to be courtesy of Kevin ****** Wilson the Australian comic/singer - DILIGAF: Do I Look Like I Give A F**k - priceless ;)

Cheers,
Mark

Ha ha! I use SNAFU at work quite a bit!

Also go the other way, sometimes. When someone comes in the workshop who is being, ahem, a pratt, I just say 'There We Are Then'. People who are in the know know exactly what I mean!!

Members of my class sometimes get described as a "tutee with asinine tendencies." There are other initialisms that begin with the word "child" but it would be unprofessional of me to share those...

Work is all Acronym's:-
JIT(Just in Time)=JTFL (Just too Flaming Late)
I drive a Fix or Repair Daily (FORD)
There's always DH* and AH* (where *= a number).

PKCC - (Pot, Kettle, Colour, Check!)

Good put down, although I discourage spelling it is "There We Are Then" (sorry, sense of humour alert).
