If you are fortunate to find a good one at that snap shot in time, time will move on and failures will occur. My friend over in Seattle picked up a W220 S500 for a steal, he too was handy with the spanners. but was shocked at Mercedes part costs as failures occurred.
I've concluded with owning a SL500 for 7+years and 3 S class Diesels over the past 15 Years. Very pleasurable but need to be kept correctly or wallet will suffer. I maintain my cars myself these days as i now have time and they will never be sold on.

Running and keeping a older quality car pristine, gives me such pleasure, i'll leave rentals to others
