four seater convertibles

Given the relative lack around the market of good four seater convertibles (good I define as good looking, well built and decently powerful - good to drive). After a long long long search, the wife and I settled on the CLK 350 Sport as the car of our choice. Sadly (see my thread elsewhere), owning a CLK is not the best of things to happen to us!

My research pointed to Volvo, the new Ford, BMW 3/6 series etc. but none of them measured up to the CLK in terms of seating capacity, and the drive/looks.

The question in my mind now is - do I get a saloon, and wait for the new BMW 3 series convert to be released and then be available used, or should I just venture into another CLK?

Patience is not a virtue I have...

There is no question about it, the CLK looks a million dollars, and nothing else out there compares to it, I always look at them when I am in the showroom.
You have been unlucky in the car that you bought. Do you know anyone that you could take with you that knows cars well, to look over it,when you find another.

Lol - I am not that bad when it comes to cars, and can check the basics... the issues which appeared are not some which will be apparent in a test drive and/or in a showroom check!!! I guess I could ask a friend who knows much more to go with me...

Hope I am not as unlucky with the next one coz this one is deffo going!

More importantly some one who could check the body work for any signs of repair, no matter how well its been done,it can always be seen by a trained eye (never in the rain)My point is that body work is the hardest thing to put straight, indeed if you ever can.

Dare I say it on here (and I have never owned one in any guise) but the Audi A4 cabrio is supposedly an excellent car, it can seat 4 adults so very practical too. It doesn't look anywhere as good as the CLK though.

Hibbo - I know what you say about the A4 Convert. i drove an S4 - impressive beast that! but, not even a tenth as good looking as a CLK, which is what drove the decision in the end.

Stumpy - the 3 convert, esp. the 335ci is on the horizon, just dont want to buy brand new, as my intention is to change every year.

I would get a small diesel to run around in until the 3 is out used. Though it may be a while until prices soften enough to make buying used worthwhile. Where I live, I can see a queue of tango coloured women and WAGs forming already.

Cant do that I am afraid... the wife will never let me hear the end of it if I suggested an old Accord till we could get our hands on the BMW convert.

She hates beemers anyways, and I am not too much a fan either, except perhaps the M5 - and possibly the new M3 when it comes out.

Much rather have the CLK work out.

Shame on you Hibbo! You're meant to be suggesting a W124 cabrio!

Standards really are slipping here...

Sorry Nick, I didn't think I'd bother stating the obvious.:p
Anyway, you can't get a diesel w124 convertible can you?

I thought a w124 would be a bit too old for our cabrio seeking friend.

For me nothing compares to the CLK droptop, but rattles and minor problems do detract from it's beauty and the driving enjoyment.

Have driven most of the cars mentioned in this thread, audi, bmw, volvo (owned a c70 droptop that i got shut of today for my ml430) and non make you feel the way a clk does when you open your garage door, jump in and glide out into the sun (provided nothing drops off in the process lol)

Stay with the CLK - you know you want to lol

We test-drove an A4 cabrio half an hour before the CLK cabrio and the CLK was far better in pretty much every way.

A4 seats 4? Only if the two in the front have very short legs - with the driving seat in a comfortable position for me, there was only about 4 inches between the seat back and the back seat - not enough even for a child's legs. And it's hard to get in and out of, because the A4's front seats don't fold forward like the CLK, they just slide forward electrically (very slowly). Also, don't have anyone in the back of the A4 when operating the roof - it intrudes into the passenger space banging anyone back there on the head (as we found out - the salesman didn't warn us!)

An ex-colleague of mine has an A4 cabrio and is very happy with it, but it's not a 4-seater like the CLK. It's really a 2-seater with a large leather-covered parcel shelf in the back.

Please ignore all my baseless Audi crap then, I'll stick to what I know: Buy a w124 cabrio!

What are you going to do when all of the 124 have left this planet, including the cabs
