From 450SLC to A160

The beloved SLC has been bought for a grand by the auto transmission specialist people. Took delivery of a 98 A160 Eleg. semi auto. On monday night. Four grands from a desperate private seller (OK he wanted five but... am not a shipbroker for nothing :twisted: ).

Immaculate, warranted 68k 'Meteor' colour, alloys low profile tyres etc - looks very smart. This will become wifes motor - I get her 98 C230K Eleg est.

What do I beed to watch out for on the A lads?

Nice one sooper

I can detect a slight difference in performance, the A is not that keen on hills - the SLC did not actually know what a hill was...

Is a woeful tale, but in a nutshell, the gearbox went - ended up letting it go for a touch over a grand, to the repair shop.

I've actually got the Mrs C230K now and she has the A.

The completely nuts thing is that the lads in the workshop were saying I was seriously unlucky, as engine/box should have marched on for at least 250 and not unusual to see 500k on the clock.

The day I went to pick up the cheque, they were telling me about another SLC that came in the day before - the bloke had had the car totally rebuilt for his father and had spent £47,500 on the rebuild. Sadly the old man is extremely ill - the car has to be disposed to use funds for treatment. I know they wont see ten grand - even chucking quite good private plate in.

The only thing they had not done on the car was, err, the gearbox.

They had resprayed the car a dodgy sort of plum clour which am sure was not an original colour (and a huge mistake).
