I was happlily changing my fuel filter when I found that the connector on the hose from the filter to the metal fuel line that runs to the engine was rusted on tight. I noticed this when I decided to change the hose.

I tried to WD40 it and the like but I have washed the nut on the metal line that connects to the hose, (well more or less since a spanner can still grip it).

But it is still rusted tight to the hex nut connector on the hose.

How easy iis it to change the fuel line?.

Is it something to go to a breaker for?

Any advice?

I must mention that the connector on the metal fuel line it self is now spinning freely but no luck with loosening its connection with the fuel hose.

Having just obtained a new MOT yesterday I was given an advisory note my metal fuel lines will require replacing soon, so I would be interested also.

I have now found that Breakers don't keep the lines. I found this out after arriving at a breakers yard to find that they were stripping a 124 coupe.

I was over joyed to find that the fuel lines were in tip top condition and they were offered for £10. I bought them eagerly.

Whilst riding home on my bike approx 10mins from home they got caught in my rear wheel spokes and brokel.

GREAT

My advice would be to cut out the rotten sections and replace with purpose made fuel hose clamped on to the pipe with pipe clips. It would be even better to cut out the rot by yourself a crimping kit and sweat in some new steel pipe. No doubt the rot will be where the brakets that hold the pipe are so you will have to move these but they are only held with self tappers anyway.

Id agree with Tim cus out any bad parts. My 230te failed MOT on saturday because of leaking fuel line. There were two leaks and both were where the pipe is clamped to the body. My local AutoFactor sold me some copper pipe and a short length of rubber hose. 5/16th if memory was correct(anyone?). I was then able to couple the new pipe to the old using the hose and jubilee clips. This also ment that I could leave my existing brackets where they are.
Passed MOT Yesterday no more leaks. Also had to do break pipes and self leveling suspension pipes all gone in the same areas.

I have decieded to go to the stealers for a replacement fuel line (feed line) but to find that they sell the pipe as a gigantic u-shape line rathere than coming preshaped to go in directly.

Does anyone know how to have these bent? indies are largely saying they don't do that.

Use old one as pattern and get a plumber out to bend it to match (they will either use a spring or a bending machine.

Re the one that you broke, I always sleeve the pipe with a piece of copper tube soldered over the join or brocken damaged bit. these pipes are very low presure.

There were two tracks with the W124 - one had pipes with bolted union joints and the other had pipes with push fit connectors and use-once clips.

The VINs overlap and so its common, for instance, to get the wrong fuel filter fittings.

Sounds like you might have been given push-fit pipes?

connector

The plastic connector I mentioned is actually threaded so its like a toothpaste cover with hole for hose.

But theres no flange to hold the plastic connector thing on its end???

New one on me. My car has the push fit and my near neighbour has the screwed version.

I hope the parts dept didn't just drop some old pipe on you!

Update

I'm reluctant to call them stealer but the stealer came and picked up the car at no cost and did the work.
