Any recommendation  as to minimum pad thickness before replacing front brake pads. new pads MB TEXTAR are 14 mm thick. Haynes says  wear warning light will come on at 3.5 mm. minimum thickness recommended 2mm. I have heard that allowing pads  to wear right down to minimum  2mm will cause caliper pistons to skew slightly in their bores leading to premature wear. any comments welcome about this and to the minimum thickness  before changing pads. thanks

I would advise changing them when your warning light comes on. As you say the piston travels further and sometimes tends to skew causing scoring on your discs which is bad news. Since pads are not that expensive change them when they reach the visble marker in the centre. Two things you shouldnt compromise on your motor TYRES and BRAKES.

Hi

I agee with Pete G. By all means wait till the brake warning light comes on. Then change them. The trouble is that after the light has come on. If the discs are worn then they can go metal to metal at any time. Usually when your miles away from your own workshop or garage. Its not worth the anxiety.
