Have a slight leak, apears to be from crankshaft seal, is this common on the c230k, eurocar parts have supplied me a ptfe type seal, which has to be fitted and left for 4hrs before running, anyone heard of this? does the crank pulley come off easy enough?

Before going to far the crank pulley is a hard one to take off without a special tool to hold the crankshaft still on a auto car, manual no problem. if you want to have a go I can look up detais.

The engine panneling must be removed.
The special pulley holder is a lever with three prongs that go into holes in pulley.
Undo center bolt (shock is always better than pulling) maybe you can jam something through the holes.
pull off pulley, its on a woodruff key.
Prise out seal.

The new one must be inserted free of oil or grease on all surfaces.
MB use a special drift that set the seal to the correct depth.
from the drawings it appears to be flush with front.

OK, slight admission here, I am a mechanical engineer, with 23yrs experience in vehicle building and maintainance, inc. hydraulics, electrics, air con. etc. However, all vehicles have their quirks and mercs are fairly new to me, is the pulley holder for holding or pulling? can I get the tool easily from mercedes? I think it best to have the proper tool to avoid damage if the bolt is really tight.has anyone done one, are they very tight?

You tighten to 200nm first stage then angle to 90.

they pulley holder is a tube with three prongs that go through holes in pulley, and the socket goes through center of tube.
