got my van due for an MOT tomorrow, had a good check over it, all ok apart from the front foglights not working, bulbs are fine, checked the switch out, it's a rocker type switch

the rear fogs work fine, but for some reason the front dont work, in either the lower or the upper switch position, i've taken the switch apart and cleaned all the connections, but still nothing, i bridged the connection across to the front fog connection and the fogs came on, the light inside the switch that comes on when you put your lights on doesn't come on either, could this be a faulty switch or maybe the relay is at fault? i really need to get this sorted quick as the MOT is booked for tomorrow, anyone got any ideas?

I might be wrong but operation of front fogs aren't checked on the MOT - only rear ones. Anyone else confirm this ?

can confirm that Carabind, sailed through the MOT today, with just an advisory that there was a crack in the front number plate, and it would probably need replacing if the crack gets any bigger

Good news that you're legal. If you know someone with a similar van, worth swapping switches - and depending on if they lightup or, could possibly be the relay

went to Mercs to get some advice, ended up saying the switch was faulty, paid just over £20 for a new switch, fitted it..... still no foglights, it made no difference at all, £20 lighter - still no fogs

oh, and apparently there isn't a relay either, so that means i've got to start tracing the wiring from the switch back to wherever it goes

You do need to know if you have 12volt at the switch, that will tell you in which direction to go.

Sorry to hear the bad news. They may take the switch back and at the very least, give you a credit note? Should have asked before, have you checked the fuse? (99% certain you have.. but just in case...)

i did check the fuse, always the first line of attack, i'm beginning to think it may be the actual light switch stalk playing up, i'll have a look at it over the weekend, i'm not too worried about getting a refund on the fog switch, as this new one actually lights up unlike the old one, i think if needs be, i'll take a live source from elsewhere to power the fogs
