The chrome star in the grill of my 1979 450 SL is damaged.

The grill is otherwise OK.

I have bought a replacement grill on EBay.

It is just about impossible to get advise here in Tenerife so, can anyone advise me if it is practical to just remove the chrome trim on the star and stick the new one on and if so how ?

Otherwise, if the whole ring needs to be removed, how is this done.

Thanks for your help,

Hello peter and welcome to the forum, it is only held in by 2 screws, top and in the center

yes the whole unit just comes away from the main grille by some screws behind. I am going to replace mine as mine is also dented.

the chrome is glued on and will bend/warp if tried to remove from the black plastic - dont do it.

just replace the whole unit via the screws on the reverse.
