Has anyone experienced a problem with a serious fluid leak from a front shock absorber on a new shape SL.
My car is 3 years and 1 month old, it has just failed its MOT because of the above problem. As the car is 1 month out of warranty has anyone been able to get mercedes to replace the shock absorber at their cost (approx £1,000).My car has only travelled 18K miles.
Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum by way.

I have just been to see my MOT man and it goes like this

If the sphere is just wet underneath this is not an MOT failure. the advisory box on the certificate would be marked accordingly, Slight leak on suspension sphere.

If the sphere was going drip, drip, drip then it would fail.

My car an 02 at 20k has one sphere that looks a little wet, the oil level has not changed during the 4k miles that I have done in it. The odd drip, thats all.

Nice to have you on board, I can talk about these cars all day.

Regards

Don't worry about the warranty. MB are pretty good about these things normally.
We've just had all the brake pipes replaced on a 2003 E220cdi despite it being well out of warranty. The initial claim was rejected so the dealer took it up with MBUK. Apparently this is normal procedure, "the computer says no" etc so the dealer is quite used to ringing them and lodging an appeal. Anyway, on speaking to them, MB agreed with the dealer that the level of corrosion (potential MOT failure) was unnaceptable on such a new car so agreed to pay for the whole repair.

No car under at the very least, 5 years old, should fail it's mot. MB understand this so I doubt you'll get much of an argument.

Just had a new SL 500 2002 delivered from an independent Merc dealership, both rear shocks bleeding over the garage floor....... back to MB for test and replaced under warranty.......?
