Hello and welcome,

Decreased economy is a side effect that has been noted more than once on the forum - increase use of Ad-Blue is another (usually followed by Nox sensor failures and EML on for Euro-6 vehicles) :(

More DPF regens equate to a higher fuel usage

A few note that it settles down a bit after awhile

And this is progress ? This scenario l find totally unacceptable and I'm glad my diesel CLK is Euro 4 without DPF etc

Emissions are less which is what the flavour of the month is... using more fuel to do it and not measuring the actual emissions when the DPF is in burn mode is irrelevant...:eek:

Allegedly! All we can be sure of is that MB UK are replacing an unspecified and undeclared version of EM software for another unspecified and undeclared version. This is still not a mandatory update in the UK, it's optional!

Many on other forums claim "no adverse effect". Personally, have seen an approximate 10% inferior return on MPG. Also notice that the car hangs onto lower gears a lot longer in the colder weather. Car/DPF regeneration is more noticeable probably due to frequency.

Have just run the numbers (as have time on my hands).........calculated that I would have to put in approximately £300-350 additional fuel per annum as a consequence of the NOx repair and software upgrade.

Specifically asked that software update not be carried out but apparently "no choice when connected to the servers in Germany". ( I am not cynical ).

After the update the ECU will have to re-adapt fuel trims so you may find it settles down.

For the SCR to work properly the brick needs to brought up to temperature quickly and maintained. If you're just city driving you'll find it will often go into a mode to keep the exhaust temps up. That heat comes from fuel, not too dissimilar to a regen.
Now that MB are actually having to use the SCR properly, I would expect some fuel economy hit due to this.

I think they mostly settle down

the changes in software are so big and for the first time in its life the emission control and DFP regen functions come to life correctly, and this seems to use a bit to start off - then the adaptions settle and it ought to be very similar after 500 miles

So the likes of Greta will be happy. Reduce Nox apprentlh only for everyone to shell out 300 a year more on fuel.

but then you might be alive to see the end - surely you want to see Greta saying I told you so?

Had our V220 serviced and software updated, no opt out apparently.
The service was rubbish, over filled oil warning kept coming on however, our usually 184 mile, 4 hour journey is now returning 33 as opposed to the 38 it always returned from new. Pah

Thats strange there was no opt out.

My W251 is showing a recall on the software update and it expressly says it is voulantary.

Pump your vin into the mb recall page and if it shows as voluntary kick up a fuss with the dealer.

Less emissions, more plastic use. Two think plastic cans of adblue, with plastic nozzles and wrapping used nearly in every car that uses adblue per 8000 miles. Save the planet my a.se. Some days we bin 10-15 cans, all plastic.

Why not use an IBC?
The main driver for reducing NOx is for public health rather than saving the planet.

we can recycle plastic - at the moment we can't recycle humans back to the ones we knew

the idea is to stop people dying from tractor particulates - they should have been banned from personal used 20 years ago

Doe the plastic come from recycled plastic?
Is the plastic not recylclable?

Not sure if it’s recycled, I’ll take a look.
The household recycling lorry passes our door but won’t take our recycling as we’re trade waste?? 80% of our waste is recyclable and we deal with the oil and metals separately.
