fuel consumption on 300 turbo diesel

I own a 1998 E300 turbo diesel which returns 25mpg local & 35mpg motorway travel. Other owners appear to achieve at least 5mpg more per gallon. Is this correct. Has anyone any suggestions to help on this problem. Car has had a major service and is not driven hard,runs superb no other problems.

My wife has a 300TD estate 1998 model.

Averages about 26 mpg (but thanks to this forum and it now pulling away in first not second!) we are hoping to achieve a bit more.

She gets approx 33 mpg on the motorway.

My S 320 CDi is doing 29.7 mixed and 37.9 motorway! :-D
