Hi

300E W124 series 88/89 year
When I have the auto gearbox setting in economy, the fuel economy meter on the dash will not go any further to the left than half way even on overrun.

When I change the auto gearbox setting to Sport then the fuel economy meter does what it is supposed to do ie go to the left when on overrun and move to the right on heavy acceleration.

How are the two related and how do I sort the problem.

Regards

Don't know about the gauge

but it would be worth investigating whether the car is less economical in E. If it is, then the gauge might not be at fault.

The economy guage is simply a vacuum meter on the induction side of the engine. I thought the switch was electronic so I can't think of any connection. I guess if it were vacuum on that model then a leak would cause it but otherwise its a bit odd.
