This is my first post. I have a w203 with a 111 (red top) engine. I changed my fuel filter on my own for the first time yesterday. When I switch on the car now the fuel pump makes a louder noise. The car failed to start for some time today after I parked it driving well. I later learnt I was supposed to depressurize the fuel system before removing the filter, could it be the cause.

More like you have air getting into the fuel line at the filter.
I would check the connections, and 'o' ring if there is one.

I just checked my connections and all seems well. I can't seem to see any 'o' ring along the system.

You have fitted the filter the correct way round? They either have an arrow or “in” and “out” by the pipe ends

Most have 2 different size bores so this cant happen. Unless forced.

Hi
I changed the fuel filter in my C43 and the pump became noisy, annoyingly so, I asked someone about it and they recommended changing it for a genuine filter.
I doubted that would make a difference but as it was so annoying I did and it was immediately quiet, though I had no other issues other than the pump being noisy.

Goes to show mercs are very picky wrt parts. Good to know also that a non genuine filter would have this effect.

Thanks for replying. I checked the directions are ok. It has an arrow. I even traced from the tank and verified the connections.

I guess the fuel filter wasn't genuine. It seems the fuel pump has developed a problem as the car now fails to start after driving it when it's hot. I will need to park it for an hour or so before it starts. I had same problem 13 months ago and had to get a new pump.
What worries me is the coincidence with change of fuel filter.

It seems the fuel pump is failing, symptoms which weren't there before fuel filter change. It's failing to start when it's hot.
