I am on my third used Merc now and always drove them until the yellow warning light came on before adding fuel
On the latest one [94 E300TD] first time out I was proceeding along waiting for the said light to come on, when suprise suprise -ran out of fuel, no warning light!
The light does operate when ignition is turned on, and goes off when engine starts, is it possible to adjust this at the tank end?

I betcha that its the sender in the tank thats gone....seems to be rather common on MB's. I think there are two separate mechanisms, one for the fuel level and one for the reserve light.

Then again, have you checked the fuse and ...the bulb?
