Hi
Problem with 1983 - 380SEC UK Version
I replaced the fuel pump as the original one was not working.
The fuel pump is very noisy, not just buzzing but a loud humming noise clearly heard inside and outside the car when driving.
The engine also cuts out sometimes at around 30-40MPH.
Engine sometimes splutters when accelerating.
Thought it might be a faulty replacement fuel pump, so I exchanged it.
Problem still there.
Any thoughts?

Check that fuel filter is on the right way round. It has been known also for new fuel filters to be faulty internally. I'd put another one on.
Either that or the pump is working too hard cause maybe there is crap in the fuel tank.

Fuel filter internally defective. Someone else thought the fuel filter could only go one way and the one way was the wrong way.

Hi

The fuel filter has different size fittings on each end.

It can only be fitted one way.

 I have since discovered that new fuel filters should be pre-soaked before fitting, something that not many garages do.

Unfortunately, I didn't soak mine.

The sudden pressure can cause the element to tear.

The fuel pump tests out OK at 8 AMPS.

It seems the fuel pump is working too hard.

The question is where?

Hi

Is there a one-way valve close by. If so try replacing that.

Hi

Are you referring to the valve on the fuel pump?

Hi

One other idea.
When you connected the wires to the fuel pump, are they connected the right way round.
