Hi

I am trying to decompress the fuel system on my 87 190e so I can change the fuel pump. The haynes manual says I have to first remove the fuel pump relay but I cant find it  !!

The book says it should be in the fuse box behind the fuses, the only relay in there is the indicator relay - when i remove it, the fuel pump still runs but the indicators stop working. There is also supposed to be a relay holder located in front of the fuse box, but I don't have one, is this because its an older model??

Does anybody know where the fuel pump relay is on a 87 190e or is there another way of decompressing the fuel system (like disconnecting the electrics at the fuel pump)??

Any help would be much appreciated

Last time I did this I disconnected the battery only. Loosening the pump lost about 100ml of fuel, most of which ran out of the fuel filter. If you are prepared for the fule leak, it's no big deal.

I followed your advice and the filter change was a piece of cake, so much for the haynes manual!! Thanks mate.

If anyone has this problem, don't worry about removing the relay, just be prepared for the (small) leak!
