Hi,

Does anyone know how to time the fuel pump on a 312D sprinter?

I can see a mark on the pump housing but no marks on the drive gear to line up with it.

Is there another way to find out where the injection point is for no1?

Once I know I can put a dial gauge in it and set it to the correct value
(.9mm?)

Thanks,loz

Hi,tried to send message direct but it would not allow. Not sure what notches you have seen. The timing is checked using mb hht or star. If the pump is to be removed, the crank is set to 12 degrees btdc, with rocker cover removed check cyl 1 on firing stroke Cam lobes on cyl 1 point opposite directions. Undo pipes and wiring to pump, 3 nuts and slide it out. There is a mark or spline on gear which lines up with A on the casing. Before a pump is refitted line mark with A and then turn the gear clock wise untill the free play stops. the A on the pump casing is at aprox 11 o clock. with all assembled, fine adjustment can then be made using allen key adjuster that points upward from casing. Hope this helps.Always change oil seal. allow aprox 3.5 - 4 hours. Prob 6 1st time. for mb documents and work instructions send me a fax number and i will fax it to you. All the best steve.
