Fuel sender gauge 190e

Hi all, 1992 2.0e 190, 116Kmls, very satisfied, finding all jobs so-far are manageable(just love there attention to detail).
However-- fuel gauge tells lies
Pulled out sender unit but wasn't quite brave enough to remove that tiny clip on bottom of the stem to dis-assemble. Any of u guys been here before, or am I just being ultimately tight fisted??
