I have an Mercedes A Class 160 (T Reg) and periodically there is a strong smell of fuel in the car and outside of the car. I have had this checked by a garage and they can't identify any leaks.

Can anyone help please?

just a hunch, check the fuel line on bulkhead where metel fuel suppy line meets rubber pipe, seen that joint (dry to look at) untill you touch it, then see petrol leaking, clip eats into the pipe, somewhere to start....

I have had the exact same problem on my Peugeot, very strong smell of petrol, sometimes only and the garage could not find any leaks. Because they were looking at the wrong place (fuel tank, fuel pump).

As the message above suggests, there were rubber fuel tubes on top of the engine, and one had split, in two or three places, and was leaking only so slightly. I attached a big white sticker on that tube and asked the garage to fix it, the same people who were telling me there were no leaks they could see. They fixed it by replacing a section of the rubber tube which had splits and neglected to change another split tube which was no more 1cm away, and a continuation of the tube they replaced. Oh well.
