Fuel Stolen

I have now had the diesel stolen twice from my E320 CDI estate W210. Investigation shows that there is nothing to prevent a tube being passed down the filler neck and the fuel filler flap is not alarmed! I think that is really poor!

Anyway, how to prevent it? Of course on both occasions the paintwork was damaged as the thieves forced open the filler flap. I wonder whether fitting a locking filler cap (aparently NOT available from MB) and disable the existing flap locking mechanism would help? Alternatively, does anyone know someone who could alarm the filler flap? that does not seem beyond the wit of man.

Incidentally, I was in a garage the other day and noticed a new fuel tank for a Renault arriving from the dealer. Aparantly, the latest thing is to use a battery drill to just drill up from under the car, into the plastic tank and drain the fuel that way!. What are we coming to? (£400 for the new tank, by the way).
Any advice would be useful.

It never ceases to amaze me the level of ingenuity that the scum of the country possess, if only they would put their talents to good use, then I am sure they could earn a good living.

Sorry to hear of your fuel loss, these days its a lot of money in the tank. I remember cars of old having anti-siphon flaps in the filler tube, have these been removed from modern cars?

As for what are we coming to, we are reaping the rewards of a liberal attitude towards bad behaviour of children, teenagers and adults over the past 30 years or more. I don't know when, but if the silent majority don't stand up and say enough is enough, then before long we will have extremist politicians exploiting the malaise that is British society today, and then we will all lose :(

Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
A piece of wire mesh inserted into the filler neck would prevent this.

I wonder if the top of the tank, where the tube enters, is easily accessible/removeable?

I've tried the leads posted and also some other anti-syphon device makers but none do anything for cars.

Does anyone know where I could find the wiring that goes to the interior light switch? (Two wires, brown and brown/purple). If I could find those in an accessible part of the loom I could easily arrange a switch within the filler flap to trip the interior lights and thus the alarm. Any ideas?

It might be more convenient to use the boot pin, (which will trigger the alarm, if the boot is opened) you would need one door switch and a few feet of wire. If this were fitted I would suggest you modify the petrol flap so as it can be opened when the car is locked and alarmed, this will prevent further damage to paint work if you get done for a third time.

its so easy to remove the tank, enough to empty it of fuel anyway, for whoever asked.

The cheap alternative!

Simple - a sticker in the back window saying converted to LPG and one on the fuel filler flap saying LPG only! U could even glue the rubber bit I think they have just below!! D - badge the beast as well and when parked place a my car is empty sticker on the front window.

Also if your car has been targeted in the same area report to CID as gang at large and ask them to run a sting op. ..suggest letter to local mp etc

Good luck

PS where was your car parked - postcodes please

The country has indeed gone to the dogs ... but only if you're the silent majority. Anyone with a single issue gets all the attention they need. As if that wasn't enough you now get a £100 fine for littering, but just a £75 fine for aggravated assault.

My solution to penal reform (yes, penal as in prison, not the happy stick) is for Gordon's finest to buy an ageing about-to-be mothballed supertanker which our fine DoT then parks somewhere offshore of Scotland. As and when the detritus of the Courts are sent down for their criminal misdemeanours they are transferred to said ship. When it is full, it is sailed into the mid-Atlantic and scuttled. Society's problems dealt with permanently and safely. Now who could get offended by that, eh ?

What a brilliant concept...one that I, subscribe to 100%.... Alas, 'Yooman rights' rears it's ugly head AGAIN. The sub-human, sewer rat layer of society, has more going FOR it, than law-abiding citizens have. Politicians bend over backwards to protect the 'rights' of the criminal, and ignore the fact that with 'rights' goes RESPONSIBILITIES.
