I have now had the diesel stolen twice from my E320 CDI estate W210. Investigation shows that there is nothing to prevent a tube being passed down the filler neck and the fuel filler flap is not alarmed! I think that is really poor!
Anyway, how to prevent it? Of course on both occasions the paintwork was damaged as the thieves forced open the filler flap. I wonder whether fitting a locking filler cap (aparently NOT available from MB) and disable the existing flap locking mechanism would help? Alternatively, does anyone know someone who could alarm the filler flap? that does not seem beyond the wit of man.
Incidentally, I was in a garage the other day and noticed a new fuel tank for a Renault arriving from the dealer. Aparantly, the latest thing is to use a battery drill to just drill up from under the car, into the plastic tank and drain the fuel that way!. What are we coming to? (£400 for the new tank, by the way).
Any advice would be useful.
