E220, anyone know what the rough temperature of the fuel temp sensor should read when cold? If this was faulty would it cause a diesel knock on idle?

maybe, if it shows too low temp... in may even prevent engine to tart is showing too high value. Of course temp is ambient temp when start engine, some higher when running.

Yes, ambient after a soak and then shouldn't increase too much during use, probably not too different to intake temp.

Fuel temp is used to control switch over from pressure control valve to quantity valve control and for pump protection. It'll start to derate engine once temps get above about 60deg.

Not useful for anything else as its fuel temp into the pump. The pump is about to squish the fuel up to several hundred or thousand bar, which puts heat in, which massively changes temp.
