Is it possible for there to be a restriction in the fuel filler opening (where you put the petrol pump nozzle) down to the petrol tank. My fuel gauge is not working every time i put in petrol i can only manage £13-£15 of petrol and spills out of the filler opening. Any ideas welcome, Thanks.

Are we talking two different things here, what does your fuel guage indicate before you put fuel in, and after.

If the gauge is not working how do you know how much is in the tank, What mileage are you getting for your £13-£15 of petrol may be the tank is is near enough full when you add the £15

There are 2 reasons for the fuel to spill back out.
1) It is full
2) The air vent is blocked.

Either show pretty easily. Just stop, wait 30 secs and try to put more in. If its air, then chances are it will have settled a bit, the level dropped and you'll get more in. If not, it's full and check your gauge/sender. Supposedly, if you get air sucked in when you open the filler, this could indicate a blocked vent and whilst this makes a lot of sense, I've had a few cars that have done this with no other problem.
