this is not mercedes factory equipment - oh no!
this is the patented ACME "wots it for window"
its purpose in life is simply to perplex you!
hours of endless fun can be had on long motorway journeys, simply ask the question-to yourself or other passengers- wots it for?
only kidding - i have too much time on my hands - do not have a clue why its there
guessing-for display of some sort of foreign tax disc type document?

The front doors on a CE have 2 pockets for stuffing things in, one for the front, and one for the back.
This funny little window is in between the two pockets, and you cannot get to it from either pocket. It seems to go into the door cavity, the perspex dose move slightly when pushed, but not enough to "open"?

If there was a light, it dont work now.....
And anyway, its in the lower center of the pocket, not pointing towards the road, and its too far forward in the door, to be a marker when the door is opened....

Funny little window
This window is so when you have the service book slid into the holder inside the door pocket you can look through the window and see when your next service is due.
I had this on my 300CE but could never get the service book to fit in the hole

Funny little window
My vauxhall astra had that in the driver's footwell, although it had no perspex in it, just a flap to hold the service book and a window to show the details. Very clever idea, until ASSYST or whatever it's called :biggrin:
