Furry boots is my fuel pump relay, then?

Our lovely s210 320cdi has shown her first sign of misbehaviour, by not kicking down, even with the kickdown switch making a deep impression in the sole of my right boot (when I really needed the oomph, too). It was fine a little later in the journey, after I had gone 'tip' for a bit. The breadknife has mentioned it too, but I assumed she was pressing the brake pedal or some such.

An archive search suggests a check of the fuel pump relay - could someone tell me where it is?

VIN is WDB2102262B340703.

Thanks in advance, folks!

Yes you are right, its something that I posted a few months back, where one track goes open circuit on the fuel pump PCB, its an easy fix if that is the problem.

I need the first 6 VIN numbers please WDB210---

The relays can be opened up quite easily, dont just go and by a new one.

The sun is still shining down here in the South. that image that you put up is just like me when I was a lad.

If you're referring to a 2001 CDi, it hasn't got a fuel pump relay. It relies 100% on a high pressure mechanical pump on the very front of the engine. When CDi version 3 was launched, an electric pump was added to the fuel tank to aid/prime the high pressure pump but your car will be too old for version 3. Look for threads on how to clean your air mass sensor or "MAF", at least this will be free.

It actually has a lift pump as well as the high pressure pump. type49 is correct in saying that there is no tradtional delivery pump as found on the CDI 3.

There are many things that could cause the problems that you have.

Air mass sensor

Inlet port shut-off permently closed

EGR valve stuck

Boost pipe/intercooler leaking

Blocked air filter

Vacuum transducer faulty

Turbo knackered......!!!!!!!!!!

Hope this helps

Thanks for coming into this.
It is the first time that the Russian site has been wrong, this could be just the wording, the relay shown could be the Diesel Voltage Supply relay known as 4K3 in the MB info.and that does look to be too small, the 4k3 does only have 4 connections

As for the Info, It came from an advert from Auto Data saying that the fuel pump relay is responsible for no kick down on all MBs. Well I did not tell him to buy a new one, and you cant buy what you have not got

Forgot one.

Cats could be blocked

EE by eck. Thanks for the suggestions.

I'm hoping, as its intermittent its more MAF than knackered Turbo or Cats.

Its due a B service in 300 miles according to Assyst, which it will be going to MB for (in an attempt to woo them into agreeing to repairing the rust in the tailgate under warranty..) Is it possible it just needs a service?

I'll clean the MAF and take her from there. At least MB can be relied upon to diagnose and fix the problem at the service without complication, and with the utmost efficiency and economy ;)
