Hello,
I am considering buying a 1986 280GE G wagon, however before I do could you enlighten me on a couple of things.
Firstly. Are the engine and gearbox common to any other Mercedes-Benz? (I’m thinking second hand spare availability here)
Secondly. It’s an auto box (4 speed) which has a slight problem in that it will not kick down on full throttle. It will however change up OK and down if you manually shift down via the gear lever. Also on full throttle it will not hold on to it's rev's above about 3000. Shifts are not slurred and the box reacts quickly. Oil looked clean(ish) but I could not check the level properly. Any idea’s? I’m thinking it may just need the linkage adjusting. If however, the box is on it’s last legs I will look elsewhere.
Thanks
