G/ wagon with 4 litre v8 diesel

I wondered if there are any european people reading this that know anything about the 4 litre v8 that is fitted to the S class, and G-wagon, it may well go in other Merc vehicles too.

Is this a good engine ? reliabilty ? etc, it is not in anything that is officially imported to UK.

Also I am talking about 2001 vintage, and in a g/wagon.

Please only reply if you have any experience of this particular engine

I have come across this engine in the W211 series, whilst it is a very powerful engine the fuel economy suffers badly ~25mpg combined. I will dig out the specifications and post them up.
