Went out for lunch and came home to find that someone has reversed down my drive into the garage roller door and bent it badly knocking some of the shutters out of the side members, so out with the angle grinder and ground off the ends that were sticking out. At least I can close it again now after a fashion.
With the 2 houses opposite empty and the one next door, there is no one to ask.

It rather spoilt the nice lunch:(:(

Have you got home insurance Malcolm? I don't s'pose there's anything the police can do, but if it doesn't work any more, the home insurance people will replace it?

Hopefully, nothing directly behind the door?

Curious that they should reverse down your drive. From my observations in car parks, only a minority of motorists seem to know how - so that would narrow it down.

Was it someone trying to visit you, perhaps, who then decided that disappearance would be easier than explanation? Any evidence of paint colour smudges where contact was made? Who do you know with a car of that colour? (Is Miss Marple or Silent Witness available locally?)

Think positive, an enjoyable lunch must have it over an altercation in the heat of the moment - and happily you were able to repair the door. :)

Good post from Alex above, it does annoy me when people know they have caused damage and just drive off.

Can you repair the panels or can you get new ones?

My Garage door is 70 feet down the steep drive from the road.
Its an insulated electric roller door, I put it in about 4 years ago, the damage to the sides is minimal, and to change that is a work of art as I built them in, so that ramming would be hard.

I am insured, so my first claim ever going in, just the new roller section that goes in from the top.

It could have been some one trying to drop off a TV, though that side of things is near on dead now.

At least it could have been worse, and thank goodness I keep plenty of tools like angle grinders.

Having seen the photo, someone may well have reversed most of the way down, parked and tried to call. When they turned round (having realised that you were out to lunch) they would have discovered that they had failed to engage the handbrake and the vehicle had rolled the last few feet to come to rest against your door.? ;)

Know anyone with a dicky handbrake, who never parks in gear (perhaps because he left the engine running - delivery driver?)?

The plot thickens.

But someone reversing down there, in line with the garage door, would have difficulty getting out of the driver's door and would then have to walk round the vehicle to call. Did they not drive down forwards?

Be on your guard in case it was an attempted ram raid in order to steal your nice car .It does happen ,Why not install ram raid protection behind the garage door.

The picture is an optical illusion as it is 14 ft wide and a turning area at the bottom going up to 20ft

On 50% of the cars that call come, the hand brake does not hold them.

I reverse down the drive as it makes it easy to get out, when in the garage

Hi malcolm, I would be very careful in case someone has attempted to break in.

It does happen, does the SL normally reside in there?

I really hope its not the case. I dont mean to worry you.
