I had some work done on my car over the weekend, and the garage called yesterday to say it was ready, but when I arrived they told me they had lost my keys!!!!!!!!!

I have a spare key but the alarm fob doesnt work on the spare, can open the doors by puttng key in lock but doesnt set alarm.

What should I get the garage to do? :(:(

Get a quote for replacement keys, and alarm fob and coding all so they work as they should do. Then compare it to the cost of the work you've had done.
Don't pay for half of the contract i.e. don't collect a car of a lesser standard than you agreed. Garages shouldn't get away with that kind of appalling lack of responsibility.

The garage lost the keys, putting you in this predicament, so it is down to them to retify all problems arising.

Do you need the car? If so and the car is not secure because the alarm cannot be reset then leave it with them and insist on a courtesy car.

Put the ball in their court...

I have just ordered a new key. Cost: £184!!!

The garage should pick up this bill.

Not only do you need them to replace the keys you need them to replace the locks as well. Most garages put a tag on the keys with the registration on so somewhere is a set of keys with your registration on. A garage lost my dad's Jag keys and they had to replace both door locks, the boot lock and the glove box lock as well as 2 sets of keys. Dad wasn't too upset as the locks were getting worn.

To replace the locks and alarm you are looking at over £1k.

As said it is up to them to find replacements in a secure way

Replacement keys and locks FOC! Don't accept any less.

How do you know some scally hasn't made off with your keys and is waiting for you to get home so he can collect his next ram raid tool?

Not sure what your car is (W124?) but perhaps a 2nd hand set would suffice?

what have the garage offered to do?
Garages are normally quite good in these situations but at the end of the day they need to sort it out and keep you on the road as they do. So, they have to rent you a car and sort yours. My dealer recently broke my windscreen. They kept me on the road and sorted it, simple as that. Any garage has the same responsibility.

what have the garage offered to do?

The garage think that they may have given my keys to a customer who was in the garage earlier that day by mistake!!!!! Think he would have noticed. They have been trying to contact him, but had no luck (surprise!!!!!). They are gonna try again tonite and will call me tomorrow :mad:

I am not happy, and I will be instructing them that I will be arranging a courtesy car and sending the bill to them until they get it sorted, and any other costs will be paid by them.
