Today after ordering the parts for the new roof I need for my garage, I decided to do the prep work for the slight change in style and fitment.
The current roof has those corrugated combination material slats/boards or whatever they're called.
A couple of weeks ago some local children decided to climb on the roof and being of the slightly larger variety succeeded in breaking or cracking almost all of them. My roof went from waterproof to sieve overnight. I literally have one board which is undamaged. The parents of the little bar stewards were not interested in the slightest in contributing to the costs involved, I now wish that the little gits had actually fallen throught he roof, it might have taught the little blighters a lesson.
Is it legal to cover the roof in broken glass or barbed wire?
Anyway, hopefully on Thursday or Friday next week, I will get a call telling me the material will be delivered that day.
I've decided to use 11mm thick OSB3 board as my base to give the new roof some added strength and then cover it with some 6ft x 30" Vistalux polycarbonate to make it waterproof. I will do the job myself as it'll keep me occupied during my furlough leave.
Previously, I had taken advantage of the corrugations to wind the wiring for the lights around the joists so that it was held in place securely. As a result of the new way I am doing the roof I had to remove it all and then attach it to the joists with those little hammer in clips that grip the wire.
After doing all that, I swept up and tidied everything to maximise my floor space. I had a couch in the garage that I had been saving for my nephew just prior to when the Corona Virus struck and rather screwed up all our plans, fortunately my very nice neighbour let me store it in his garage, so No 1, son and I lifted it in out of the way. It'll be a big help. and will keep it dry in the mean time.
I could actually get a car in my garage again.
I'm quite looking forward to the material arriving so that I can get tore in tbh, I just hope that the weather doesn't turn or it'll make it a miserable experience as it has to be done rain or shine.
Fingers crossed!
