Hi, I'm new to this site (and potentially Mercedes!).

I'm being offered the Gardx protection by the dealership at £399 before buying it (model year 2021). Is it worth it please?

Hello and welcome,

I'd say no, unless they'll do it for free as part of the deal... ;)

Based on what I've seen on here and t'other side over the years, that price amounts to about £50 for the product and application (search Ebay and similar) and £350 for the salesman!!

In a word, No.

If you want some protection go to an authorised detailer and get some from of ceramic coating applied. If you car is brand new, it should need minimal prep and I suspect would be cheaper than £399

Hello and welcome,

I'd be thinking twice about it even if free/payment offered to me. Most car dealers are not renowned for their detailing abilities and have a knack of managing to introduce swirl marks from up to 20 paces away.

Is the correct way to go and what I did with mine but the cost may be a bit higher. Mine was done with under 20 miles on the clock, basically nothing apart from a bit of shunting, yet it cost over £600 and that was as a favour from a mate who details cars for a living. He spent the first day and a half purely polishing and refining to get rid of fine scratches/swirls from the factory. I'd already stressed to the supplying dealer that I didn't want any prep done to the car as I've seen what some of them are like so it was literally fresh from Germany.

All of this is very dependant upon how obsessive you are with the car of course. Many (most?) people are happy with a "showroom finish" but to me that's just something which needs improving upon.
