Gas Strut for R230 ?

Has anyone found an alternative for the centre console gas strut ??

The part A0009807564 is over £50 !! Yes I know certain parts are expensive but thats crazy for a little £10 part..... I'd rather have the satisfaction of a little DIY alteration to an alternative but the nearest I can find is (no irony) for the R129 which can be bought for £15

Thanks John, thats the R129 type I've seen so far, think I'll get one of those and "adjust to fit!" :¬)

Are these easy to replace? I presume this strut makes sure the centre console stays up? Mine hasn't worked since I got the car, not much of an issue, but if it is simple to replace then I might give it a go.

Easy yes, worth it no.... I found an OEM one that was near enough the same (Rangerover L322 Centre Console Strut) and fettled it to fit. Its not a huge amount better than before. The top compartment has more resistance and feels better but when its both it still just slams shut on gravity. However if you're interested to find out, open the lower compartment and at the rear there are 2 small torx screws, remove them and the padded top back section simply pulls up, needs a bit of force but nothing major. What it does reveal is just how much dirt gets into the nooks and crannies !!
