Gauges in 1986 420 SEL all gone

I have a LHD USA import 1986 MB 420SEL - All the dash gauges (speedo, tacho, oil pressure gauge, temp gauge, petrol gauge, etc) stopped working today except for the economy meter. Is this just a fuse or is there is a much bigger problem at work...

The economy meter is vacuum driven. The rest is electronic. Check fuses, plugs etc. Could be the cluster too.

Doesn't look like a fuse...

I checked all the fuses and they are ok - the gauges that have fuses seem to be drivn off of seperate fuses anyway.

Any other ideas?

sounds like the cluster has gone. There will probably be common electronics somewhere. I assume you've checked that all the cables are well connected.

I don't have any of my tools with me as I have the car in the UK and live in Holland - actually in the middle of a move back. I called a couple of garages and for about £60, they will pop the wheel and the cluster and check behind for me - plus, I probably wouldn't do it myself anyway as there seems to be a real chance of cracking the plastic on the cluster if you have never done it before. As the car is only worth £1200, I don't want to spend much more than that to get it fixed - fingers crossed for a loose lead!
