G'day From Australia, another W126-er Here

Thought I'd better drop by and introduce myself!
My name is Aaron, I'm from Melbourne Australia and currently have two 300SE W126's, one is Astral Silver with the Dark Blue soft leather interior with the plush velour carpet, the other is Diamond Blue with Cream interior. The Blue is my daily driver & the Silver WAS a project car but it's pretty much done now so I'll call it my "Good one".
In the past I've had W123's & W124's and worked extensively on W116's and V8 W126's as well so I'm pretty familiar with almost every Benz from September 1972-1997!! No expert by any standard however, just a DIY-er that learnt through a series of bad experiences that it's much better, safer and cheaper to do one's own repairs and maintenance than risk trusting my Benz' and my life to other "Mechanics" that have zero specialist knowledge (& many that claim to). So now unless I physically can't; i.e. don't have the infrastructure or ability (windscreen replacement, exhaust fabrication, aircon re-gas wheel alignment.... that's about it) to do it myself.

Hello and welcome...........My era of years working on Mercedes cars in NZ. 1968 to 1978 , I'm definitely no expert but picked up a few things during my years. So continuing with 1988 to 2014 cars in the UK.

Loved visiting Melbourne a good few years ago, when Paul Hogan was I think running for Mayor with a 'Hoges for Mayor' campaign. A colleague has just moved there too and is really liking it.

What a wonderful warm welcome!
Sorry it took me so long to respond... Hectic little patch.
I never fail to be amazed at how repairable our cars are, when other cars require a whole component to be ditched and replaced, ours can have just the affected part of the component replaced.
I hit the pothole from hell (or hell may have been at the bottom of it, that's how deep it was) & cracked the sump on the Blue 300SE the other week!! From what I read prior to replacing it, I was expecting it to be a nightmare but honestly, the whole process went just like in the manual... with one exception..
I mangled a corner of the gasket while installing & hadn't noticed so it was a less than optimal repair (liters of oil on the driveway after the test-drive attest to this fact!) so I had to go through the whole process again the very next day!!!
I don't mind though, now I will know the process back to front should the need ever arrise to do it again (I'm sure it will).
