I was having fun in my 2006 SLK 55 AMG last week when suddenly the gearbox stuck in 6th. Wouldn't go up or down in any mode. I managed to get where I was going and since then it hasn't happened again.

Is this a one of glitch or something I should get looked into?

Regards

All you can do polar Bear is to have the codes read out to see what happened, I seldom worry about a one off fault and would wait to see if it does it again

Bad news, the car went in today for a check up and they need a week to check the gear box out. Apparently the gear box has failed and I may need a new gear box. I will take her in next Monday and find out then.

Im going to assume Mercedes told you this? Ive seen several SLK where the gearbox do something odd just the once and then never again, see what tye say and then look for a 2nd opinion.

Seeing the 6th gear is mentioned, it must be the sequential box where the pump and relay go down, normally the relay solves it

Its also been slipping for a while, gear changes in sports mode take to long. Fortunately its still under warrenty so MB are picking up the costs.

Thanks Malcolm, I will keep you posted, luckily I took my car in for a pre end of warrenty check. Otherwise it could have been expensive.
