Hi,
can someone tell me how to remove the trim that surrounds the gear lever assembly as i have bought a chrome one to replace it but i dont want to scratch the surrounding facia trying to remove it.

I have seen a post on hear somewhere but can i find it now NO !!

If anyone could explain if it is just held on with glue and needs to be prized off gently or if it fixed on some other way.

Thanks

If you mean the fag packet sized trim, just put your fingernails under & pull it.

As Type49 says - Get your nails under and pull it up. Good luck.

As the others say, this...http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?p=230276#post230276is not the same car as yours but It will give you an idea of what it looks like.
Note the part in your picture that you arrowed is a “square ring” and the gearstick dose not come off. Again fingernails only, don't use screwdriver or knife. Its the top middle picture you will be concerned with.

that gear knob looks pretty standard.

to remove...twist the cone shaped part at the bottom, this relaxes a collet type of device , and then pull the gear knob upwards
