Now and again the gear lever refuses to come out of the park position. It can be released by pushing a pencil down the child proof flap (merc speak in hand book) below the D position. Will work fine for days then just jams.

Any thoughts where to start?

If it is like some other cars it will be the brake light switch, before I try and search could I have the vin first 9 numbers.

Hi inkjet I know very little but I did see a post on this a few days ago I think it relates to the stop/brake switch that operates off the pedal. If it is faulty the car does not know you have depressed the brake and will not let you out of park. I understand the pencil solution only works on certain models and can be detrimental if used often. I am only repeating what I can remember but if you do a search at the top or look at some threads over the last couple of weeks I think you will find it. There are many more techies on here that can guide you better so good luck. Lee

VIN WOB 208365 2F 165976 0

When/if it sticks again i'll check if the brake lights come on, but i guess there is more than one switch in sensor?

pleased to tell you that it should be the switch above the brake pedal (£9)

Occasionally it is not possible to move the selector lever on cars with touch shift. = Replace switch.

Have a nice day,its simple to do, 1 x 17mm nut.

Many thanks just collected the switch for £9.00, looks like a Sunday job.
