I used to own a 1987 300e auto saloon
Recently I have changed this for a 1988 300TE Estate

On the motorway, at 80mph the car is doing about 3750 rpm, as apposed to the old car which sat at about 3000 rpm.

This is using more fuel, and is noisier

Anyone know if the gear ratios are lower on the estate than the saloon - or has my car had a donor diiff in history ?

Russell.

I think your revs are about right, mine is doing 70 mph at or around 3000 rev/min, so your figure for 80 sounds about right. I couldn't comment above 70mph, i never go that fast!! (he lied!!)

Russell....could be a lower ratio because estates are made for load lugging???

My 190 sits at about 3750 at 80 MPH as well...so maybe it was your 300e that had a donor diff perhaps?
