Gear shift illumination `87 300d ??

:grin: Howdy !!. Joined this place a couple of days ago!!. Looks like i could become a frequent poster !!.

Today i bought my first Merc !!. 300d with 196,000 miles !!. Runs great,(new engine) but there are 1 or 2 little niggles i want to get sorted. Driving home tonight,the wife noticed that the gear shift selecter is NOT illuminated ??.Is there a bulb under the plate that could have blown??,to see where you are, you have to keep turning the interior light on and off !!. Also the illumination on the dash is VERY weak?? The dimmer works fine,but its just not bright enough ??. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! :grin:

Yes there is bulbs on the gearshift,they must have blown....try some new bulbs in the dash panel as well,,,,with that sort of mileage the bulbs will have burned and will not give a clear light...
