gear shift light out

I purchased a 89 420 sel last spring and love this car. So far I have had trouble free driving. The previous owner kept excellent records and had spend much money to keep this car in it's present state.
It's smoked silver with burgandy interior. All gadgets work and this car is alot of fun to drive. Suprisingly it gets decent gas milage.
A question I have is the gear selector console light is out and I can't figure out how to get to it to replace it. It's frustrating not seeing what gear your in while night driving.
Can anyone give me tips on how to get at this bulb ?

tks for the info. The problem I have is I can not remove the panel that covers the switches and shifter. I'm afraid it will crack if I apply any more force. When this comes off I will have no problem getting to and replacing the bulb.
