Gearbox ISM

I have a failed ISM on my gearbox S500 (W221). Part is apparently not available until September! Does anyone know if a used one can be coded to the car? Main Dealer says no but I see many for sale second hand.

Doubt so many would be for sale if they can't be used, but I am guessing they will need recoding and adaption.
Might be best to ask an Indy like @Steve@Avantgarde
