after my car had been at the garage for a gearbox leaking problem, the level of fluid has always seemed to read on the high side ... i don't know, maybe 3 or 4mm above the line. is this critical? the leak is fixed now, but i wouldn't want the gearbox to go break again, obviously. to get the level i follow the procedure in the manual (drive until op temp is reached, c.10miles, then check) ... my question is, should i drop some fluid out, or is a slight(?) overfill ok? many thanks!

In reality a slight overfill shouldn't matter because the gearbox has a float that will stop oil rising out of the sump into the clutchpacks.
