the problem i have now is totally unexpected for me ,i changed my diff because it was making unwanted noises ,and doing stuff worn out diffs do,its there no its not yes it is ,my original diff was 3.67 ,i got a 3.27,same bodily just had to change over the drive 3 bolt flange,i was hoping this was the final chapter but no ,box changes d r 1234 in tip stationary, move of, it seems to be stuck in 2nd,will not allow tip manual change,no kick down and will not function as it should, surely ,to me, changing final drive ratio that amount would not do this, similar to different size wheels really ,do i have another problem surface at this moment by coincidence? it was ok before with the noisey diff, kick down, changes, cruise etc ,i know nothing as to what the maf does whatsoever, could that be shot ,miles are high at 180k but fully serviced mb,i would welcome any pointers because at the moment i am very perplexed indeed
thank you, alancee

My friend the problem you have there is the you have put the wrong ration diff in your car and that is why you have the problem.

You must put the correct ratio in to sort this problem.

No this is not a ratio problem.

With the MAF un plug it and if the car goes back to normal then you have the answer.

Now a speed sensor or speed signal missing could also do it

As a rough outline when a speed signal is missing the box does not know what to do and it locks up into a get you home mode.

Just a couple of points, was the box ok before you changed the diff.

And we would need to do some homework wth the box ECUs

You do have a speed sensor on the rear end is the ABS lamp on

When the MAF is down, so is the engine output, and this gives a similar problem

The difference in the diff ratio is so slight that cant do it, and the gear box does not know that is different

Yes the speed signal is picked up on the front, and also the rear for the ABS and it depends where the box takes it, if the speedo is working then so is the rest of it providing it is getting to the gear box.

I will sleep on it tonight
