I have a C Class 220d automatic on a 2017 plate can somebody advise what the recommended frequency is for a gearbox oil change. The current mileage is 51500. The dealership don’t seem to want to answer this question.

5 years / 60k then every 4 after IIRC

A MB Indy should do it for around £300 inc flush

7g + is 77500 or 4 years . 40k is a better mileage tbh for the change if your conscious of wear n tear.

So many different opinions !

"5 years / 60k then every 4 after Iirc"

"7g + is 77500 or 4 years"

It's 5 years / 77,500 miles

The world is a complicated place and I now know why people go to live on a park bench .

Take a blanket.

There is only one true answer... and I'll never understand anyone who has a problem with that .

To gain the truth for the 7g+ I contacted two main dealers and two indi's in different parts of the country.

They all came back with the same answer :)

Recently my father has been looking at at S205 , some fully loaded with real leather , heads up display , panoramic etc only to find out the ATF is 3 years overdue !

But the answers come from the MB strategy departments, not necessary the engineering department.

We all know the same gearboxes from MB can have different intervals depending on the year sold. For example the 7G+ on mine is once (and never again) at 31,000 miles. The same gearbox in a non-AMG was/is every 31,000 miles....

BMW's often have "sealed for life" gearboxes but the manufacturer of the gearboxes (ZF) say service every 50-70k miles. It's in MB's or BMW's interest for the gearbox and engine to last the life of the warranty and no longer.

It definitely would be better to service the gearbox too much than too little. With a gearbox oil change around the £300 mark (at an independent) and a gearbox rebuild more like £3000+ I go for more frequent oil changes than specified.

Maybe it needs a oil change:)
Welcome back buddy :) !
I‘ve been under the house doing underfloor insulation between the joists for 15 days . Just finishing today .
Both cars are filthy I’ve not cleaned either for 5 weeks .
An oil change is WAY down the list ;)

Exacty! Think of it in an analogous way to changing engine oil and why it needs to be done.

Mines in for some clunky downshifting when cold and engine light on / limp mode - not sure if it even been changed but has 102,000 klms on the clock so about 60k. Hopefully its just oil and filter change and flush.......

Turns out the engine light was due to clogged DPF so they just did a forced regen. Odd as I drive 100klm+ a day with 100klm/h for more than half of it.

Transmission needed an software update now shifts perfectly. Prior to me was serviced by an indie who obviously had no idea - glad its been sorted by an authorised service center.

It probably has a boost leak if its clogging up much quicker.
Shift points and characteristics will be poor when an active fault code is stored (light on or not)
