Hi guys, I just bought a C250 TD automatic with 200k miles on the clock. The car is in very good condition and has been very well looked after etc. The car seemed to run very well. I noticed a problem when it is cold, the engine has slight noise when in drive and you hold it with footbrake, it is fine when you drive it ect, also fine when it's in reverse. Is it a common fault?
I took it to London last night and when i was accelerating after the traffic lights it slipped out of gear and would not drive at all. You can go into any gears but it just won't drive, the engine does rev but the gears do not engage. I called recovery and had them towed me back home. I started the car again when i came back and it does go into gears and seems fine again. Could anyone tell me if it's the gearbox on its way out or is it something else? Maybe gearbox oil level low??
