Hi

I can hear a very faint whine coming from the transmission on my 04 350 SL . It’s slightly more pronounced on deceleration. Can anyone tell me if this is a potential costly problem or one that can be fixed without going to a main dealer please

Cheers Brian

If it’s the 5g box you can check the ATF level in the engine bay , low oil might do that .
Either way , bank on the ATF and filter being changed every 40k miles

Yeah I tend to whine a lot when not maintained properly.

How long/mileage since the last change ?
What mileage is it on now ?
I would buy a dipstick and check the ATF level first , if it’s low , top it up . If that sorts the whine , maybe then change the ATF/filter after scanning for fault codes .
